Beside the Forums where you can talk and trade with people, you can also go onto the official TPPC chatrooms! You can go onto the TPPC Chatrooms at http://tppcrpg.net/chat.php, or you can go on it with a separate IRC client.

What's an IRC?

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a protocol for real-time Internet text messaging (chat) or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication via private message as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing. The following guide covers 4 different free 3rd party software, it will teach you how to properly set up the program so you can easily hop in the Chatrooms whenever you feel like it

mIRC (Screenshots available)

mIRC is a commercial program, it expires after 30 days of use. You can still use it but you have to wait a little bit when the program starts.

Installing mIRC

You have to download mIRC http://www.mirc.com/get.html and install it on your computer.

Once you've opened the program, type the desired nickname into the <Nickname> box. <Alternative> nick is self-explanatory. Click on <OK> to proceed

NoixIRC Servers

You may connect to either 3 of the servers:

  • sentinels.noixirc.net
  • anderson.noixirc.net
  • trinity.noixirc.net

To make it easier, use /server tppc.noixirc.net, it will look for any of the available 3 servers (sentinels; anderson; trinity) for you to join

Once you are connected to the server, read the rules and regulations. Those are very important, breaking any rule may get you kicked out of the server.

Registering your nickname

Registering your nickname makes you the owner of this name on the server, if anyone impersonates you, you'll be able to kick the person out so that you can sign in using your name.

To register, type /nickserv register passhere emailhere, then hit ENTER.

Once you are done, a mail will be sent to your inbox, open it and follow the instructions.

Logging in again

Close mIRC and open it again; connect; You will get this message:

Identify yourself

Identify yourself: Type:

/nickserv identify passwordhere

Joining TPPC official channels

Official channels for TPPC are:

  1. TPPC
  2. TPPCTrades
  3. Betting

To join, type /join #channelname

For example: /join #TPPC

Perform

Perform is a tool designed to do things for you when join a server Go in

Tool -> Options -> Connect -> Options

Click on Perform and a window will pop up. Tick Enable perform on connect, then type in the commands you want mIRC to do for you on connect. Those are the basic ones:

Timestamp

Usually, when you install mIRC, it doesn't come with the timestamp enabled, so you have to do it by yourself if you want to have one. So you in Tool -> Options -> IRC -> Messages Tick <Timestamp events> and type [HH:hh:ss] in the box.

HexChat

HexChat is a completely free IRC program derived from X-Chat. This one is easy to use.

CIRC (Screenshots available)

CIRC is a plugin from Google, it is a simple and lightweight program that allows you to connect to IRC networks, although it does not support logging chat history to disk. For this to work, you must install it from Google Chrome via this link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/circ/bebigdkelppomhhjaaianniiifjbgocn

You may launch the APP directly from Google's App Launcher, or Search Program -> CIRC in your Start Menu

To make it easier, use /server tppc.noixirc.net, it will look for any of the available 3 servers (sentinels; anderson; trinity) for you to join

Set up your nick with /nick desirednickname, join the channels you want with /join #channelname and you're ready to chat with other TPPC Trainers!

Pidgin (Screenshots available)

Pidgin is a messaging program that supports many protocols, IRC being one of them. It is also a very lightweight and simple program.

Download the installation package from https://pidgin.im and launch it

Enter your name and the server address (tppc.noixirc.net)

Keep the other fields as is

Scroll down the Buddies menu options and enter the channel name you wish to join

iOS Devices - TurboIRC 3 (Screenshots available)

You may get the app from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/turboirc-3/id978108367?mt=8 or from iOS Store.

First off, set up your nickname that you will use when connecting to the IRC by clicking on SETTINGS:

Go back and click on CONNECT -> NEW SERVER, then edit the server's name to TPPC.NOIXIRC.NET:

It should look like this when it is all set up, click on FINISH on the top left:

Go back to the main menu and click on CONNECT again, your newly added server will be displayed there:

IRC Commands

Being on an IRC network requires some basic knowledge to change your nicknames, registering a channel, being an operator, etc. Here is a small guide to the very basic commands you can use while you're on an IRC network.

TPPCTools (No Longer Available)

Made by Hobo and f00sh, TPPCTools is a bot that works on the main channels of TPPC's Chatroom to help TPPC players with a lot of useful tools. It is now no longer available, see http://wiki.tppc.info/OldTPPCTools for more information.

m8ball

m8ball is a bot created by Nightrush, and is used in the channel #betting as a tool to determine winners in a bet.

TRTools

TRTools is a bot created by the mastermind of Team Rocket, Piggachew. The bot has many uses such as finding rarity information, rating information, pokemon stats, and many more!
